Zest providers have been managing and caring for people with HIV for more than a decade. Whether you recently tested positive or are a long-term survivor, the advance practice nurses at Zest provides the expert, sensitive care you deserve. Zest offers confidential HIV and STI testing, HIV prevention (PrEP) and Post-Exposure (PEP) Treatment.

HIV Prevention & Management


Zest is uniquely prepared to manage the healthcare challenges facing LGBTQ+ families of all varieties. Zest has carefully cultivated a network of area LGBTQ+ friendly specialists and providers that include mental health professionals, medical specialists, adoption resources, legal experts and community support groups. We pride ourselves in being a one-stop source for competent, comprehensive health care.

Gender-Affirming Care

Under the direction of WPATH-trained Advanced Practice Nurse providers Francis Mijares and Ashley Whatley, Zest is proud to be among the first primary care clinics in the Austin area to support an informed-consent model of care for our population. Zest strives to provide a safe, warm and welcoming space to meet patients where they are in transition while providing competent, evidence-based, gender-affirming care. Zest is actively involved in clinical research on transgender health - including effects and risks of hormone therapy and measuring gender dysphoria. In 2014, Zest partnered with OutYouth Austinto create the Central Texas Transgender Health Coalition (CTTHC), now an official OutYouth Austin program, to educate medical and mental health care professionals to provide competent care for the transgender community.

Zest offers:

  • A Transgender Patient Liaison to guide patients through transition-related issues including insurance coverage, name and gender marker changes and coordination of care with mental & medical health specialists
  • Conventional & Bio-Identical Cross-sex Hormone Therapy including education, initiation, & management
  • Hormone suppression therapy for minors to prevent secondary sexual characteristics
  • Telemedicine appointments for established patients who are not able to be seen in clinic
  • Trans-sensitive routine Gynecological & Prostate exams
  • Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis (credentialed to bill insurance for plans with coverage)
  • Non-surgical Facial Feminizing and Masculinizing Procedures
  • Surgical Scar Reduction/Removal
